River Island Becomes Latest Arklow Retailer To Shut Up Shop

Arklow has been dealt another blow to its retail sector with River Island closing its store in the Bridgewater Shopping Centre this month.

The fashion outlet had announced last year that it was undergoing a major restructuring which would result in the closure of 33 stores in the UK and Ireland.

The closures were driven by what they say is “financial pressure, rising costs, and a significant shift towards online shopping.”

It follows a growing list of retailers who have ceased operations in the Bridgewater Centre with New Look, Claire’s Accessories, and most recently EuroGiant all closing their doors.

A notice to customers posted outside its Arklow outlet said;

“This store is closing on Wednesday 25th March. Thanks for shopping with us. We’ve had a blast. You can still shop the latest trends at riverisland.com and nearby locations.”
