A distinctive property overlooking the coast at Porter’s Rock in Arklow remains abandoned and in a deteriorating condition, years after it was advertised for sale as a potential dream home by the sea.
Known as Sea Cottage, the property attracted attention in late 2020 when it appeared in property listings highlighting its coastal setting and potential to be transformed into a substantial home.
However, a visit to the beach this week found the property still standing empty, with its condition appearing to have deteriorated further since the photographs accompanying the original auction listing.
Sea Cottage was featured in Irish property coverage in November 2020, when it was advertised for sale by online auction through Bidx1. The property was described at the time as an unfinished, detached three-bedroom residence overlooking Porter’s Rock Beach, with approximately 330 square metres of floor space.

According to the contemporary listing, the exterior of the house had been completed, but the interior still required finishing work. It was presented as an opportunity for a buyer to take on the remaining work and bring the property to its full potential.
The guide price was €125,000, with the auction scheduled for 9th December 2020. The property was subsequently reported to have sold for around €180,000 following a bidding war.
Porter’s Rock is a distinctive stretch of coastline just north of Arklow, known for its rocky shoreline and coastal views. The beach has also experienced significant coastal erosion over the years.
Against that backdrop, Sea Cottage remains a striking sight: a substantial property in a location many would consider desirable, yet one that appears to have been left unfinished for years.
It is not currently clear what plans, if any, exist for the property, whether further work is intended or what factors may have contributed to its continued deterioration.
