Arklow’s 19 Arches Bridge and Arklow Credit Union were among the local landmarks joining a global Wave of Light on 15th October, honouring families affected by pregnancy and infant loss.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, with 15th October recognised internationally as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
Each year, the global Wave of Light takes place at 7pm, when people around the world light candles and landmarks, monuments and buildings are illuminated in pink and blue to remember babies who have died during pregnancy or infancy and to show support for their families.
Wicklow County Council once again took part in the initiative, with the county’s 19 Arches Bridge in Arklow among the landmarks highlighted as part of the awareness campaign.
Arklow Credit Union also joined the initiative, illuminating its building in pink and blue on Wednesday evening.
In a message shared on social media, Arklow Credit Union said the lighting was its way of joining the Wave of Light, an initiative intended to bring people together in remembrance and solidarity with grieving parents and families.
The council’s participation supports Féileacáin, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland, a national charity supporting families affected by miscarriage, perinatal loss, stillbirth and neonatal death.
The Wave of Light offers an opportunity for people, communities and organisations to remember babies who have died and acknowledge the families who continue to live with that loss.
