Wicklow County Council Seeks Further Information on Plans for 64 Homes on Arklow’s Vale Road

No decision has been made by Wicklow County Council to approve the Yardland development on Vale Road Arklow which comprises of 64 residential units. Decisions in planning matters are normally given within 4-6 weeks of an application being received with the application received on 3rd September 2026 and a decision expected this week.

The planning application seeks to demolish an existing dwelling at Yardland, Vale Road, Arklow and to construct a residential development of a mix of terraced houses, bungalows and duplex apartments on a circa 2 hectare site.

With a date for decision of Wednesday 28th October, the Council’s planners have requested further information from the applicant in relation to a number of matters, which must be addressed prior to the application being determined.

The site is adjacent to the Heatherside estate on Vale Road and the proposal consists of 40 houses and 24 duplex apartments totaling 64 residential units.

This comprises of 5 one-bedroom homes, 16 two-bedroom homes and 17 three-bedroom homes together with 2 three-bedroom bungalows.

This accommodation is made up of two duplex blocks. Each block shall contain 6 two bed units and 6 three bed units.

The proposal provides for a refuse storage area, for storage of bicycles, for car parking, for amended footpaths and for both public and private open space. The area of public open space proposed for the site is 0.16 hectares within the Urban Design proposal.

Issues being sought by the local authority may include the design of the proposed development along with the necessary supporting infrastructure. A request for further information does not mean a planning application has been neither refused or approved.

A previous residential application submitted to the Council for the same site at Vale Road, Arklow was refused in December 2023.
