A planning application has been submitted for a new 64-home residential development on Vale Road in Arklow. The site is directly adjacent to the Heatherside estate and in close proximity to Pearse Park, home of AGB, and Gaelcholáiste na Mara.
The application, submitted by Eldertree Developments Ltd, was received by Wicklow County Council on 3rd September and is currently at the planning application stage with a decision due on 28th October.
The proposal involves the demolition of an existing dwelling on the site and the construction of a mixture of duplex, terraced and bungalow homes and would comprise of 64 residential units in total.
This would include 24 duplex apartments across two blocks, 5 one-bedroom terraced homes, 16 two-bedroom terraced homes, 17 three-bedroom terraced homes, and 2 three-bedroom bungalows.
The two proposed duplex blocks would each contain six two-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units. The remaining 40 homes would consist of the terraced houses and two bungalows.
The application also proposes communal refuse storage buildings and bicycle storage lockers, together with associated works across the site. These include new footpath arrangements, external steps, drainage connections, landscaping, car and bicycle parking, private open space, and public open space.
With housing remaining a major issue for many people trying to find somewhere to live in Arklow, a proposal for 64 additional homes is likely to attract plenty of interest locally.
