New Arklow Cove seating welcomed by Swimming Community

The strong sense of community among Arklow Cove swimmers has once again been highlighted following the addition of new seating at the popular swimming spot.

The Arklow Cove Swimming Groups have thanked a number of local people and businesses who have helped provide much-needed seating for those who use the Cove. Among the new additions is a unique seat presented by Linda Wolohan Lennon, which she created with her friend Carol Brauders Cairnduff.

The seat has been decorated with photographs of sunrises and sunsets taken by Linda and Carol at the Cove, making it particularly personal to the swimming community. It also serves as a tribute to Linda’s late father, Willie, who swam at the Cove with the group for many years.

The swimming groups said it was wonderful that his memory will now remain part of a place he enjoyed so much. Four additional seats have also been provided after being acquired by John Lawlor and the Badass Group of swimmers.

Made from concrete, the unusual designs were described by their designer as being like “stars in a constellation”. They can be used both as seating and picnic tables and are designed to be extremely durable.

The swimming groups also acknowledged the ongoing support of Peter Farrell and Roadstone, who they described as having been among their biggest supporters since swimming at the Cove began.

According to the group, several different swimming groups use the Cove, each with their own friendships and character, but they come together to socialise and enjoy the water. They said that when something is needed, the different groups and individuals regularly contribute, helping to provide what is required.

The swimming groups said they felt the phrase was a fitting description of what has developed at the Cove.
