Arklow Rock Parnells suffered a disappointing defeat in Sunday’s Wicklow Junior B Camogie Championship final, losing 1-7 to 0-7 against St Patrick’s of Wicklow at Pearses Park, Arklow.
The three-point victory saw St Patrick’s crowned county champions on 11 October, denying the Arklow side the opportunity to secure championship silverware on home soil.
Both teams registered seven points during the contest, but St Patrick’s solitary goal ultimately separated the sides on the scoreboard.
The result brought an end to Rock Parnells’ championship campaign, having entered the final with previous experience of overcoming their Wicklow Town opponents.
The two clubs had already met during the group stages on 11 September, when Rock Parnells secured a 1-5 to 1-2 victory at Parnell Park in Arklow.
That encounter also finished with a three-point margin, although it was the Arklow outfit who emerged victorious on that occasion.
Their path to the county final included an impressive turnaround against Éire Óg Greystones.
Having suffered a 5-8 to 1-6 defeat against the Greystones side during the group stages in August, Rock Parnells responded when the teams met again in the championship semi-final on 18 September.
On that occasion, the Arklow side produced a much stronger performance, recording a 3-6 to 1-6 victory to secure their place in the decider.
St Patrick’s, meanwhile, booked their place in Sunday’s final following a convincing 6-8 to 0-0 semi-final victory over Kilcoole on 25 September.
With both finalists having enjoyed successful championship campaigns, the decider presented Rock Parnells with another opportunity to overcome familiar opposition and add to the club’s honours.
However, St Patrick’s reversed the outcome of their September meeting to secure the Junior B title.
For Rock Parnells, the defeat marks a frustrating conclusion to a campaign which included notable victories against their fellow championship contenders.
Nevertheless, the club’s progression to the county final provides encouragement for the future, particularly following their ability to recover from earlier setbacks and secure important results during the knockout stages.
While St Patrick’s celebrate their championship success, Rock Parnells will turn their attention towards building on this year’s campaign and challenging for county honours again.
Sunday’s final was refereed by Pat Dunne, with the result officially recorded by Wicklow GAA.
