A group of young gymnasts from Arklow are preparing for a very special trip to France, with the Arklow Gymnastics Club Siamsa squad set to perform at Disneyland Paris next month.
The gymnasts, aged between 12 and 18, will travel to France on 8th October, with a packed few days of competition and performance ahead. On Saturday 10th October, the Siamsa squad will take part in their competition, performing three routines. But the highlight of the trip will come the following day.
After auditioning for the opportunity, the squad has been selected to perform in the pre-parade on Main Street at Disneyland Paris on Sunday, 11th October where they will perform in front of visitors from around the world on one of Disneyland Paris’s most recognisable routes.
For the club and its young performers, it represents a major achievement and another opportunity to showcase their talents on an international stage. The Siamsa squad has already built up considerable international experience.
Last year the group won a bronze medal at the World Gym for Life Challenge in Lisbon, competing against teams of all ages from more than 30 countries. In 2024 Siamsa became the first Irish team to take part in Eurogym which was held in Bodø in Norway. The squad was subsequently selected to perform in the gala show during the event.
Now, following performances at the Arctic Circle and in Lisbon, the group is preparing for another very different international stage. The club says the trip represents a huge honour for the gymnasts, the club and Arklow.
However, Siamsa won’t be the only Arklow Gymnastics Club squad travelling internationally this autumn. The club’s Bri squad is also due to travel to Liverpool in November, making for a busy few months for the club and its young performers.
For Siamsa, however, the next stop is France with Mickey ears, leotards and a performance on Main Street all on the itinerary.
