Wicklow’s Mason Melia Signs For Premier League Spurs

Mason Melia has put pen to paper on a contract to sign for Premier League side Spurs. However the 17-year-old from Newtownmountkennedy in Wicklow will not join the English side until 1st January 2026.
This is due to Brexit rule meaning clubs from England’s top flight cannot sign a player from overseas until they are 18.
The five-year deal is reported to be a record transfer fee for a League Of Ireland player in the region of £1.6m.
Melia began his youth career with Newtown Juniors, St Joseph’s Boys, and Bray Wanderers. The forward then made the move to St Patrick’s Athletic in 2022.
He became both the clubs youngest ever player and goal-scorer when he netted on his senior debut against Wexford in January 2023.
St. Pat’s supporters voted him Club Young Player of the Year 2024 and he was named PFAI Young Player Of The Year by his fellow League Of Ireland professionals.
On the International scene Melia has represented the Republic Of Ireland from U15 to U17 level. Since then he has gone on to earn caps on both the U19 and U21 stages.
