Wicklow County Council is to carry out a series of inspections and surveys of housing properties across the county over the coming months.
A contractor representative will survey a sample of the Council’s social housing stock as part of ongoing work to maintain up-to-date records on the condition of its housing properties.
According to the Council, the information gathered will help support future maintenance and housing management planning.
Separately, inspections will also be carried out on a selection of private rental properties across Wicklow during the coming month.
The inspections will include a sample of properties supported through the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) and Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS), as well as properties provided by Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs).
The Council’s housing section lists inspections of private rented properties, including HAP properties, as one of its housing services.
The inspection programme comes as Wicklow County Council is also preparing to introduce a new Differential Rent Scheme following a county-wide rent review.
The Council has confirmed that the new scheme will come into effect on 3rd October 2026, replacing the two Differential Rent Schemes previously operating in the county.
Letters dated 15th September were issued to tenants covered by the scheme outlining the rent that will apply.
The rent review, which began in September 2025, covers council tenants, while the Council has also been carrying out reviews relating to other housing supports including HAP and RAS.
Under the new Differential Rent Scheme, council rents are linked to assessable household income, with the impact of the changes varying between households.
The newly announced inspections are a separate programme focused on the condition and management of housing stock and selected private rental properties.
