Arklow St. Patrick's Day Parade

Arklow is preparing for one of the biggest days in the town’s calendar as the Arklow St Patrick’s Day Parade 2026 returns this March, with organisers encouraging the public to come out and enjoy what promises to be a colourful celebration of community and heritage.

The Arklow St Patrick’s Day Parade 2026 will take place on Tuesday, March 17th, getting underway at 2:00pm. Large crowds are expected to line the streets as local groups, businesses, schools and organisations take part in the annual event.

This year’s parade theme will honour a major milestone for a much-loved local organisation, celebrating 200 years of the Arklow lifeboat service operated by Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The town’s RNLI volunteers have been named as the parade’s Grand Marshals in recognition of their long history of saving lives at sea.

The parade will begin at the junction of Yellow Lane and Mellows Avenue before making its way through the town centre. The route will conclude at the Arklow Parade Ground, where spectators can watch the procession as it reaches its final stage.

Vintage vehicles are set to lead the parade once again this year, followed by the Grand Marshals and a wide range of participating floats and groups.

Several key viewing areas have been identified along the route. The judging point will be located at the Courthouse, where entries will be assessed as they pass. A dedicated sensory-friendly viewing space will return this year and also be available outside Arklow Library, offering a quieter environment for those who may prefer a more relaxed setting during the celebrations.

Motorists are being advised that a number of roads will be closed during the parade to allow the event to take place safely. Road closure points will operate at various junctions along the route and those travelling through the town on the day are encouraged to plan alternative routes in advance.

The parade was previously in doubt earlier this year following the resignation of the long-standing organising committee after a decade of service. Rising insurance costs, inflation and the growing workload involved in staging the event had led to concerns that the 2026 parade might not go ahead.

However, those fears were eased when the Arklow Town Team stepped forward to take on the role of organising the parade and ensure that the long-running community celebration would continue.

The parade has become a key event for Arklow and regularly attracts large crowds from across the region. Each year it showcases the town’s community spirit, with local clubs, businesses, schools and voluntary groups taking part in the festivities.

Organisers are still welcoming additional sponsors and support for this year’s event. Anyone interested in sponsoring the parade or getting involved can contact the organising team by email at stpatricksdayarklow@gmail.com.

With preparations now well underway and the route confirmed, the stage is set for Arklow to come together once again to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and to mark a special milestone in the history of the town’s RNLI volunteers.
