Popular local man Anthony Doyle has been chosen as grand marshal for the 2025 Arklow St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Anthony is well known for his spectacular Christmas and Halloween-themed lighting displays outside his home. Over the years, his creations have helped raise over €40,000 for various local charities.

Last February, however, Anthony received the devastating news of a terminal cancer diagnosis. Having been given only three to six months to live, Anthony is still here following chemotherapy treatment.

He took to Facebook and explained what it meant to be chosen as grand marshal.

“It’s with great pride and honour that these two lovely people and the St Patrick’s day committee have chosen me to be this year’s Grand Marshal.”

“As many of you know my wife Arlette and I have over the years enjoyed decorating our house with lights for Xmas and Halloween.”

“With the help of donations from local people and from afar, we have been able to raise over €40,00,0 which has helped local voluntary organisations like the Arklow community first responders, RNLI, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, asthma society, the Wicklow Rapid Response, Tidy Towns volunteers to name a few. So, with pride and honour, I will lead the St Patrick’s Day parade on Monday & look forward to seeing you all & being part of the festivities.”
