A proposed Rathdrum Multi-Use Sports Hub was given the go ahead yesterday. This Rathdrum Multi-Use Sports Hub will transform land owned by the council into a multi-use facility.

The facility will include an all-weather and grass pitch, a running track, and other sporting facilities.

Councilor Sylvester Bourke said the early concept for the 15 acres of land opposite Avondale Gaelic grounds was presented to AMD councillors.

He went on to say there was “Unanimous approval of the proposal and welcomed the long sought after amenity.”

Fellow Councillor Pat Fitzgerald outlined the plans for the project.

“This is a facility that is badly needed in the town. I have worked with a number of groups and sporting organisations in area to try and bring this project forward and am delighted that it is now at this stage.”

“This is a Concept Design which will now need to move forward to Detail Design, and from there to Part 8 Planning Permission stage.”

“The facility will be developed in a number of stages so will take time and will be developed as funding becomes available.I have asked for a meeting with interested groups and organisations to take place as soon as possible.”

“I remain fully committed to working with all groups and organisations to bringing this facility to fruition.”
