Arklow NCT Centre Shows 54% Pass Rate For 2024

Arklow NCT Centre had an overall pass rate of 54.65% for the year ending 2024. A total of 43,296 tests were carried out with 24,404 passing, 16,929 (38.54%) failing as major, and 2,993 (6.81%) failing as dangerous. It is illegal to drive any vehicle with dangerous defects following a dangerous fail test result which may result in penalty points or a court appearance. 

The 43,296 tests carried out in 2024 was an increase from 32,230 in 2023 which saw a pass rate of 57.13% (18,470), a failed major rate of 36.43% (11,775), and 6.45% (2,085) failing as dangerous. 

The RSA announced in December last year that the NCT test fee would be increasing in price from €55 to €65 from January 1st 2025 with a retest increasing from €28 to €40. A report published in December stated the increases were “as part of business planning for the coming year, including planned €18m expenditure on public interest activities and government priorities.”
