Man Arrested Following Wicklow Drugs Searches

Gardaí in Wicklow have seized a combined €123,720 of cocaine and cannabis (pending analysis) and arrested an individual following two searches conducted in Arklow and Aughrim on Tuesday 7th January.

The searches were carried out as part of Operation Tara and ongoing investigations into the distribution of drugs in South Wicklow/North Wexford. Gardaí attached to the Wicklow and Arklow Detective Units, supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit, the Garda Dog Unit, the Wicklow Divisional Search Team, and Digital First Responder, executed search warrants at a residence in Arklow and two premises in Aughrim at approximately 7:00 a.m. 

Cocaine with an estimated street value of €108,720 and cannabis with an estimated street value of €15,000 were discovered and seized. 

Other items seized included €2,260 in cash, four luxury brand watches, several electronic devices and drug paraphernalia. 

A male in his 40’s was arrested at the scene for an offence contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.

The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.
