Wicklow County Council has issued a public warning about a QR code scam targeting the county’s Pay and Display parking machines. The fraudulent activity involves bogus QR code stickers being placed on some machines and Payzone signage, directing users to a cloned website designed to steal credit card details and other personal information.

The issue was recently discovered and has been reported to Payzone for further investigation.

To protect yourself from this scam, Wicklow County Council advises motorists to avoid scanning QR codes or barcodes found on Pay and Display machines or Payzone signs. Instead, users should:

  • Use official payment methods by paying for parking online through the genuine Payzone website.
  • Download the official Payzone parking app directly from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Pay by card or cash at machines where these options are available.
