Increased Garda Support Welcomed in Arklow Following Recent Violent Incidents

In response to a series of violent incidents that have unsettled the Arklow community in recent weeks, local TD Brian Brennan has confirmed that a dedicated drugs detective has now been assigned to Arklow Garda Station.

Deputy Brennan met with Sergeant Mick Hall at the station this week, stating that he has also reached out directly to the Minister for Justice to seek further Garda resources for the area.

“This is just a small but important step,” Brennan said, acknowledging the community’s growing concern over public safety following several serious events in the past month.

“I welcome the news that Arklow now has a Garda specifically focused on drug-related crime, but more support is clearly needed.”

Residents have voiced increasing worry over violent disturbances and anti-social behaviour in the town, particularly in recent weeks.

The assignment of a dedicated detective marks a renewed Garda focus on tackling drug-related crime in the region, which is a key concern that locals and public representatives alike have repeatedly raised.

Deputy Brennan has encouraged members of the public to report any information they may have about recent incidents.

“Please contact Arklow Garda Station if you’ve witnessed anything. Community cooperation is essential,” he said.

The call for action reflects wider concerns across Wicklow and the South East region, where Garda resources have been under pressure in both urban and rural areas.
