€15.2m Funding For Wicklow Roads Projects

Wicklow County Council has announced that the Department of Transport has allocated €15.2 million for various maintenance and Wicklow Roads improvement projects across the County, focusing on regional and local roads.

This funding is part of a broader national investment of €713.67 million aimed at enhancing regional and local road infrastructure.

The essential funding will significantly enhance the overall safety of Wicklow County Council’s road network, benefiting all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.

Cllr. Paul O’Brien, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council said:

“It’s fantastic to see this continuing support from the Department of Transport which will be utilised to support and enrich towns, villages and communities throughout the County of Wicklow.”

“The allocation includes funding to complete the Rockey Road Improvement project, currently underway, which provides Road Widening works along Rockey Road, to M11 Junction to increase the carriageway width to between 5.5m and 6m. This is a major investment for Wicklow Town, with completion expected by August 2025.”

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman highlighted the importance of ongoing investment in improving the regional and local road network, stating:

“I warmly welcome this crucial funding from the Department of Transport, which will enable our staff to progress the delivery of key improvements throughout the County.”

“It’s an investment that will boost connectivity, support economic development, and make daily commutes to school, work, and other activities easier and safer for families.”

Joe Lane, Director of Services for Transportation and Infrastructure Delivery at Wicklow County Council, acknowledged the vital role the Department of Transport plays in providing this funding.
