Arklow Marks 10 Years Of Life-Saving Defibrillators

Arklow Community First Responders (CFR) are celebrating a decade of progress, gratitude, and lifesaving impact as they reflect on the installation of the town’s very first public access defibrillator and the incredible growth that has followed since.
It all began just over ten years ago with a conversation among dedicated volunteers. Within weeks, the town saw the installation of its first defibrillator outside Adrian Dunne Pharmacy on Main Street. Today, Arklow proudly boasts 14 public access defibrillators strategically placed throughout the town, a milestone that speaks volumes about the power of community spirit.
In a heartfelt message to the public, Arklow CFR expressed deep appreciation for the support they’ve received over the years.
“Little did we imagine 10 years later that our community would have 14 of these life-saving devices dotted all over our town. All of this would not have been possible without you.”
The group acknowledged the role of local donations, volunteer time, and community engagement in making the expansion possible. From attending public events and first aid training courses to simply sharing social media posts, every act of support has helped strengthen the network of lifesavers in Arklow.
As part of their commitment to keeping the town safe, Arklow CFR recently replaced the original defibrillator on Main Street with a modern, upgraded model. This will ensure that the community has continued access to reliable emergency equipment for years to come.
“We are truly humbled to be part of such a caring and compassionate community,” the group added. “We could not do what we do without you.”
The team has also released instructional videos to help the public learn how to locate and operate the new defibrillators confidently — a vital step in empowering ordinary citizens to respond in critical moments.
