Arklow 2026 St Patrick’s Day Parade Could Be Cancelled

The future of the Arklow 2026 St Patrick’s Day parade is uncertain following the resignation of the organising committee, citing workload, rising insurance costs and inflation.
In a statement released this week and seen by Arklow News, the committee confirmed it has made the “very difficult decision” to step down after 10 years, citing increasing workload, rising insurance costs, ongoing inflation and the lack of new volunteers willing to join the committee.
The committee said that while the decision was taken “with a very heavy heart”, the small number of organisers remaining meant it was no longer possible to continue in its current form.
“Unfortunately, with the continued rise in inflation and a very small committee with no new personnel willing to join, we cannot continue,”
The organisers expressed their gratitude to Arklow Municipal District for its help and continued support over the years, as well as past and present committee members who contributed to the parade’s success.
Thanks were also extended to local businesses, clubs, sponsors and volunteers who supported the event, along with the grand marshals who led the parade each year.
The committee highlighted the importance of community involvement, noting that the growing crowds along the streets of Arklow each year showed how much the parade meant to the town and surrounding areas. Last years 2025 parade included a much welcomed sensory-friendly viewing area.
In their closing remarks, the committee encouraged anyone interested in taking on the organisation of the parade to contact Arklow Municipal District.
“We would encourage anyone that would like to take on the running of the parade to contact the Arklow MD, and we wish them the very best of luck,” the statement concluded.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether a new committee can be formed in time to ensure the 2026 parade goes ahead this year.
